Cappy is now walking on all four legs thanks to the medicine and loving care he is getting at his foster home. Since he is not available for adoption yet, won't you please consider sponsoring him?
06-24-09 Hi, my name is Cappy, which is short for Captain Courageous! I am a 5-7 month old Yorkie mix and I currently weigh 4.2 pounds. The Angels rescued me from a shelter in Illinois who wanted me to have the best chance to have a great life.
You see, my life did not start out too great. Someone either dropped me or stepped on me when I was just a tiny puppy and they hurt me badly. If they had taken me to the vet right away, they might have been able to heal me. Not only did they not take me to the vet, but they dumped me on the street to fend for myself! I am glad someone found me and took me to the shelter.
The Angels took me to the vet today and the vet said that I have a spinal cord injury at L7 – S1. The vertebra was fractured and damaged my spinal cord. Surgery is not an option. The bone has already healed but there is nerve damage. But, I DO have feeling in my toes! Dr. Josh feels cautiously optimistic that I just may regain the use of my legs in time because of my young age. And with the help of steroids, the nerves may heal themselves.
For right now I am just happy to have a great foster home where I can play all day and catch up on all of that love that I missed out on. Not only has my foster mom fallen in love with me, but so have all of my foster aunts. What can I say - I must be a loveable guy afterall. I love to play hard and give lots of cuddles. I just pull my legs along behind me when I run - it does not slow me down one bit. I have lots of fun chasing the other dogs. My foster mom says I fly around like house like a super hero. Does she remember that I am a super hero – I am Captain Courageous!!

Our Special Needs dogs (medical issues, seniors, puppy mill rescues, emotional issues) must be adopted close to their foster homes.
PLEASE NOTE - There are NO exceptions to filling out an application. Our dogs are in private foster homes, not a shelter facility. All of our rescue dogs are altered, up to date on vaccinations, flea-free and on heartworm prevention. We check references and do a home visit.
