Hi everypuppy, this is Mia.Mom is tired tonight, so I told her I would write my update and she could rest. She sure gets tired easy--I told her she should be more like me--nap during the day when she needs to, then she would have more energy.
Well, mom says I had an "episode"last night.(I think that's why she's tired.)All I know is that I itched all night!I scratch and scratch and then I jump off the bed and rub my head and body all over the rug--that makes me feel better.I went to the dogtor today for my 2-week evaluation. The dogtor couldn't understand why I was itching so bad cuz she said my "levels" looked better, whatever that means. Then my mom and the dogtor figured out that I am probably allergic to some dogs!Mom had 6 abandoned dogs in her car yesterday that we were savin', and even though she washed the crates and the inside of the car, some of their dander must have gotten on me--I was around her before she changed her clothes and took a shower.Mom said they smelled real bad because no one ever took care of them.
When we got home from the dogtor, mom gave me a Benadryl, and I feel a whole lot better.I hope I don't have nightmares about itchin tonight!"
7/13/09 Update After three weeks in my new foster home, I am feeling so much better. I now eat a new special food that is yummy (I think EVERYTHING tastes yummy!). The dogtor said I could eat veggies, so every night I help my Mom make the salad for dinner—carrots and green peppers are del-ish!
My mom is so proud of me. Today is the first day since I’ve been here that I didn’t have to take a Prednisone! Mom says that is a MAJOR accomplishment. I’m still taking my Benadryl twice a day for the itchies. We are going to try to cut back on the Prednisone gradually, mom says.
We all went out and helped Mom in the garden today, and then tonight I had a lot of fun playing with my toys. My mom says my hair is growing back really nice and I am a beautiful girl. I don’t have to wear shirts every day either! I feel like a new pup!
06-24-09 This is Mia. She looks so sweet in her little outfit. The truth is she MUST wear shirts every day to protect herself from scratching her sides raw. You see, for such a little dog, Mia has BIG allergy problems. Right now she is on Prednisone and Benadryl every day; as well as special food, shampoo, supplements and lotion to try to help relieve her itchies.
Her owners, who had Mia since she was a puppy, had to give her up because they did not know what else to do to help Mia. Mia is a sweet, low-key 4 year old. She weighs apprx. 10 lbs. She is very happy just to be by you. She has been good about going outside to potty, but prefers to use her piddle pads.
Until we are able to get her allergies under control, Mia is on sponsorship only. Finding what will help Mia will take time and many expensive trips to the vet. Can you please help us get Mia better?
